ACPM: Career Consultant - Veteran

The programme takes into account psychological, social and professional aspects characteristic of veterans, such as the transition from military to civilian career, adaptation to a new environment, stress and trauma management, as well as using their unique experience as a competitive advantage.

The course is tailored for veterans, military personnel, veteran support specialists with military service experience, and veteran officers.

Requirements for candidates

Completing the certification program does not require specific education or experience, but basic knowledge of management, economics, and finance will be an advantage.

Basics of Career Counseling for Working with Veterans

Duration: 4 days

Goal: To provide participants with an understanding of the profession of a career counselor, focusing on the specifics of working with veterans, basic tools, and approaches to assessing their potential.

Occupation:

Day 1: Introduction to Veteran Career Counseling

  • Introduction to the course, expectations of participants.
  • Career consulting as a profession: features of working with veterans.
  • Consultant's work map: stages, techniques, prospects in Ukraine.
  • Legal and ethical aspects of counseling veterans.
  • The "Framework" technique for defining the boundaries of working with a client.
  • Practice: analysis of veterans' military experience through the SWOT model.

Day 2: Veterans Career Development Strategies

  • Types of careers (horizontal, vertical) and how to adapt them to veterans.
  • The “Need or Want” technique for determining veterans’ motivation.
  • Organizational structures: how to explain civilian hierarchy to veterans.
  • The Cartesian Squares technique for making decisions about changing careers.
  • Practice: decomposition of military experience into civilian skills.

Day 3: Tools for working with veterans

  • Structure of a counseling session with veterans (GROW model).
  • The “Successes – Lessons – Changes” technique for evaluating past experience.
  • Question in counseling: how to treat a veteran's heart condition.
  • Conclusion Practice: creating questions for veterans' needs.

Day 4: Veteran Customer Profile

  • Diagnostics of veterans' values and motivations.
  • STAR and PARLA techniques for systematizing military experience.
  • Age and gender characteristics of veterans: how to get results at work.
  • Practice: compiling a veteran profile taking into account his maturity.

  • Ethics and principles of environmental interaction with veterans.
  • Mercedes equipment to restore the consultant's resource status.
  • DISC communication typology: how to adapt your style to veterans.
  • Practice: choosing a communication style for working with veterans.

Day 6: Group sessions and work planning

  • Group mentoring sessions: creating a map of work with a veteran.
  • Selection of equipment according to the veteran's style.
  • Practice: drawing up a veteran counseling plan.

Day 7: Emotional Intelligence in Working with Veterans

  • Assessment of the emotional state of veterans (Emotion Map technique).
  • Working with trauma and barriers: the "Flexibility of Thinking" technique.
  • Practice: Modeling work with a veteran with PTSD.

Day 8: Veterans Competency Development

  • Competency assessment: soft and hard skills of veterans.
  • CREDO model for creating competency development maps.
  • Practice: analysis of veterans' competencies and their adaptation to the vacancy.

  • Diagnostics of veterans' career goals (career cube model).
  • Labor market analysis: where veterans can be competitive.
  • Practice: developing a job search strategy for a veteran.

Day 10: Summary and Negotiations

  • Creating a Veteran Resume: Emphasis on Military Experience.
  • Cover letter and salary negotiations.
  • The "4 Steps to Confidence" technique for preparing for an interview.
  • Practice: resume writing workshop.

Day 11: Preparing for adaptation in the professional services market

  • Group sessions: creating a consultant portfolio.
  • Practice: modeling a veteran's adaptation to a new workplace.

Exam and certificate

Pre-registration is required to participate in the ACPM exam. 

The exam consists of video of a real training module on preparation. The exam lasts 1 hours.

Passing score: 100.

Completed tasks are checked and evaluated by ACPM-accredited teachers.

Exam results are communicated to candidates by email 2 weeks after the exam. The ACPM International Diploma is sent electronically to the same email address within 2 months of the results announcement if the candidate scores 60 or more points.
